"Last
year, I was travelling for work and read
a US Weekly magazine about Heidi Klum’s
amazing post-baby figure. When asked how
readers could get her results, she said
“you have to take into account how
I looked before and be realistic about your
own results.”
As
a young professional with a 30th birthday
looming, that quote stuck with me long after
the plane landed.
I
became anxious about what my post-30 or
possible post-baby body might look like.
While
I have always been active, running 3-4 miles
a couple times a week, I began to realize
that I wasn’t getting any younger
and needed to commit myself to losing a
few pounds and maybe toning up a bit.
So,
I started running more, dieting and even
bought some body-shaping DVDs but I felt
like the extra work wasn’t paying
off. I didn’t know it but I had hit
a plateau and was becoming more and more
frustrated with myself. There had been many
times where I cried feeling defeated and
hopeless.
I
joined Richmond Balance in January of 2009,
determined to step up my game and made a
goal to lose10 pounds. The staff was super
friendly but I was a little stand-off at
first, convinced just more time on the treadmill
would do the trick.
After
a few months I found myself talking to Richmond
Balance’s manager Brandyn Webster
about my frustration with not having met
my weight loss goal and she suggested an
8-week boot camp program to break up my
plateau.
I
didn’t know what a plateau was and
she explained that one’s body can
get used to repetitive workouts and results
would be difficult to achieve without mixing
things up.
Frustrated
by a lack of results on my own, I figured
what the heck – I’ll try anything
at this point.
That
was the first step to a dramatically different
me.
Boot
camp was challenging, fun and I made new
friends, friends I still have today.
I
also started to see my body change. I was
becoming a stronger person and loved the
way that made me look and feel. I felt confident
and capable of anything.
In
July of 2009, boot camp was coming to an
end and I didn’t want to fall back
into old habits. I needed someone to help
challenge me and introduce new workouts
into my regime so I wouldn’t plateau
again. That is when I approached our Monday/Wednesday
boot camp instructor, Jennie Meharg, about
personal training sessions.
I
have been a personal training client of
Jennie’s for almost a year. We meet
two days a week and she challenges me mentally
and physically.
I
absolutely love it!
I
have a stronger, more capable body than
what I ever thought possible. I feel empowered
to take on new challenges: Jennie has even
got me back into racing, running 5K, 8K,
15K races and working towards a marathon.
Jenni
and the wonderful staff at Richmond Balance
have changed my life. I am a more positive
person. I am a happier person. I have a
much better work/life balance and can deal
with stress more effectively. The staff
at Richmond Balance continues to help me
set and meet personal goals that further
strengthen my confidence and self-worth.
I feel like a new person - a better person
that I created from within and that feels
amazing.
When
I think back about why I joined Richmond
Balance over a year and a half ago, it seems
silly to me now that I would be so focused
on losing a couple of extra pounds. What
the people of Richmond Balance have taught
me is that it isn’t about what the
scale tells you, it’s the journey
to becoming a stronger person and all the
joy that comes with each milestone met.

"My
journey began a little over a year ago with Myron Mendoza!
My daughter (Lindsey) thought it would be a greatn idea
to enroll in a bridal boot camp at Richmond Balance
for a few months prior to her wedding. I have to say
I was scared to death at the prospect of working out
with a trainer! Keep in mind I'm a 54 year old woman
weighing in at 187lbs with little to no organized exercise
for years!
So the adventure begins!
Myron worked with us three times a week, one hour sessions,
for four months! By this time I lost 17lbs. which was
important because I had already bought the "mother
of the bride" dress two sizes too small! The pressure
on Myron was fierce!
After the wedding, I
decided to continue with Myron. I liked the results
and so did my husband. The next thing I know, Scott
(husband) is exercising with me and Myron! It's been
great!
I have lost 40lbs to
date; I have worked really hard to achieve this. But
I really couldn't have accomplished it without Myron's
knowledge, his plan, and his TLC. My advice to anyone
interested in getting fit is to start with a trainer.
It's the jump start I needed for all the right reasons.

can't believe it will be 2 years this July that I started
working with Thomas! Where does the time go! I was so
nervous! Most personal trainers come over as someone
who totally judges you at first sight, and thinks that
they've got more than their work cut out for them when
they get someone, like me at the time, who had a serious
issue with my weight and my whole being! Thomas was
SO not that person! I quickly learned that all trainers
are NOT alike! I felt as if I was a normal human, and
was treated with such respect and kindness, which in

wanted to send you in writing the good news about how
working out has lowered my blood pressure. Back in March
my blood pressure was continuouly high averaging 155/90.
I then went on blood pressure medication to help lower
it. Since my sessions with Thomas Robinson (who I think
is a great trainer) since August, my blood pressure
has lowered and is not 120 / 80 and sometimes lower.
My doctor took me off my medication last week and urges
